Kemira and community involvement – global activities from spring 2015

Responsibility towards the community where we operate is one of the focus areas of Kemira’s corporate responsibility. Related activities have been done globally at Kemira sites since 2013. The target of community involvement is that by 2015, each Kemira site that employs over 50 people would have participated in a local community involvement initiative at least once. At the moment Kemira has 26 sites with over 50 employees and of them 96 % have already reached the target.

Several community involvement actions have been already implemented globally during spring of 2015 and many more actitivies have been planned for the rest of the year. Below you can see pictures and information from a couple of activities.

Clean beach event in Espoo, Finland

The staff members of Kemira’s Espoo R&D Center and Helsinki office participated on May 20 in an campaign event called Clean Beach, organized by Keep the Archipelago Tidy Association. The aim of the campaign was to clean the beaches on the Finnish coast.

Kemira’s team cleaned the beach for a couple of hours. By cleaning the beaches we help to ensure a nice summer start for the people, animals and nature.

Cooperation with local school in Columbus, GA, USA

Our site in Columbus, GA, USA, acts as a great example of a responsible partner in the local community. On Wednesday, May 13, 2015, Kemira provided support to the Waddell Elementary School “Knowledge Explosion”, which is the name given to their annual science fair. Third and fourth grade students performed research and prepared exhibits for various science topics.

Columbus employees Geoff Monteith, Pete Norris, and Todd Keith served as judges for the event. Waddell continues to express appreciation to the Columbus plant for our ongoing support of the school and investment in the students’ future.
