On October 19, 2022, the American Association of Railroads (AAR) again recognized Kemira with the Grand Slam Award for 2021. The Grand Slam Award honors exemplary shippers of hazardous materials. Kemira was also singled out as the only company to have won this award for 7 consecutive years.
“In a very challenging year for the global supply chain and logistics, our teams secured and shipped over 8,700 hazardous material railcars from our Kemira and partner sites in North America and achieved zero non-accident releases”, says Lucy Pouliot, Senior Manager, Rail Logistics. “We can be very proud of achieving this award for the 7th consecutive year! It is our teams behind the scenes who are responsible for loading and securing railcars that truly drive our safety culture and we thank them for their efforts which made this award possible.”
The AAR Grand Slam award is presented annually to companies, like Kemira, who have been recognized by at least four Class 1 railroads and have had zero non-accident releases in the previous calendar year. In 2021, Kemira was acknowledged by CSX Transportation (CSX), Norfolk Southern Corp. (NS), Canadian National Railway (CN), and Union Pacific Railroad (UP) for safe shipping practices to qualify for the Grand Slam.
