On October 18, 2017, Kemira was once again recognized by the Association of American Railroads (AAR) with the 2016 Grand Slam award.
This is our second consecutive year and third time receiving this prestigious award since 2012, recognizing our ongoing commitment to safety and railcar management best practices. As part of our continuous improvement, we implemented a paperless inspection system at all of our North American coagulant manufacturing sites that simplified the inspection process and improved efficiency. This system is now being implemented at our sodium chlorate manufacturing facilities in the U.S.
Kemira was recognized by CSX, Canadian National, Union Pacific and Norfolk Southern railroads for our continued dedication to safe handling of chemical shipments. These four awards were achieved by having zero non-accidental releases (NARS) during the calendar year 2016 which qualified us for the AAR Grand Slam award. In 2016, our North American operations completed 7052 shipments of hazardous materials without any non-accidental releases.
“Achieving this prestigious recognition for a second consecutive year and with an increase in the number of shipments validates that safety continues to be our first priority” says Lucy Pouliot, Senior Manager, Rail Logistics.
“The Grand Slam Award is an achievement that all chemical shippers strive to obtain, yet few succeed. It takes sustained vigilance by our operations personnel and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards in inspecting, loading/unloading and securing tank cars. We are honored to be recognized by AAR as one of only 21 companies to receive the 2016 Grand Slam Award.”
