Product stewardship

Product stewardship is the responsible and proactive management of health, safety, and environmental aspects of a product throughout its lifecycle. Kemira’s Product Stewardship Policy defines the minimum requirements for our operations to ensure that our products can be safely used by our stakeholders and that the risks of chemicals and potential related impacts are incorporated into our decision-making.

Product stewardship goes beyond regulatory compliance, which itself sets tight controls on the manufacture, import and sale of chemicals. Product stewardship provides a platform that helps us identify concerns relating to specific chemicals and their hazards at an early stage so that we can manage those risks along the value chain.

Product regulatory compliance

Continuously monitoring regulatory development is a prerequisite for compliance and plays an important key role in ensuring product safety for customers, value chain and stakeholders.

Product Lifecycle Management

Our Product Lifecycle Management process includes examining regulatory compliance, human health impact, safety issues and environmental protection This process spans from conception and development to manufacturing and sales, and ultimately to product elimination.

Priority substance management

Kemira actively monitors our portfolio for substances of concern and very high concern. We prepare management plans to define the specific risks associated with each substance, review options for risk management, and create action plans that may include substitution, phase-out, or limiting exposure.
